Coast
Within 10 minutes drive of expansive sandy beaches that never seem to be too busy in the height of the season.
Some have fun ways of accessing them via short (toy) train journeys or a 30 second trip across a lagoon. Once there, all beaches are fully equipped with restaurants and toilets which are well kept and clean.
Tavira
The town square is an attractively paved area which is the heart of Tavira on the warm balmy nights. On most nights there is entertainment of some sort or other with local bands adding to the lovely atmosphere.
There are open air markets throughout the Summer which sell local produce, book fairs etc. The square is surrounded by coffee shops with outside seating and its great just to buy a coffee along with the obligatory port and just watch the world go by.
Restaurants are just off the square, along the riverside. Tavira has plenty of quaint shops, enough to spend an afternoon browsing and don't forget to visit the Castle and it's garden in the centre of town which provides good views across Tavira.
Boat trips to the Algarve caves or local beaches can be booked down at quayside in Tavira.
Golf
Several golf courses within 10 minutes drive.
Special interest holidays
Within walking distance of an astronomical viewing facility where they hold private and public viewing of the sky at night via large telescopes. English spoken and well worth a visit.
